10 MUST WATCH HIGH SCHOOL DRAMAS
Anyoung my dear friends. Welcome back!! So today lets talk about one of our's favorite genres of K-drama. As the heading suggests, you all have already known that today's topic is about high school dramas. Well if you recall , I think most of us have been addicted to these dramas, are through the high school dramas only. As 3 out of 4 people start their journey through either Boys over flowers or Playful kiss. It is what I guess . Whenever you are confused about starting a new drama, you can never go wrong with the high school's. And you are never old enough for watching them. Init? So lets go through that nostalgic lane again and recall our favorite high school dramas.
1. SCHOOL 2013
School 2013 is all about friendship, life, school & youth. Here Seungri High School ranks as one of the worst of the 178 high schools in Seoul based on academic scores. For the better performance, Seungri High School is now busy in preparing presentations for its new students. Class 2 is at the bottom of grade 2 at Seungri High. In order to improve the student's scores at Seungri High School, the school hires Se Chan, who is the top Korean language teacher at a famous institute in Gangnam . This drama clearly represents the ordeal a teacher goes through while managing the class. Its display of the student-teacher friendship and relationship is beyond incredible.
2. THE HEIRS
The Heirs is all about friendship, school, romance & comedy. Kim Tan is a wealthy heir of the Jeguk Group. He was exiled to the U.S. by his brother Kim Won, who tries to take control of the family business. While he was in the States, he meets Cha Eun Sang who went there to look for her sister. Despite being engaged to Yoo Rachel , Kim Tan soon falls in love with Eun Sang. When Kim Tan returns to Korea, his former best friend turned enemy Choi Young-do begins picking on Eun Sang to irritate Tan. Tension ensues when Young-do also falls in love with Eun Sang, and Kim Tan is forced to choose between responsibility and love. This drama shows that even the love of two 18 year olds can be serious. Love doesn’t see the age to get matured.
3. DREAM HIGH
Dream High is a high school musical drama. It tells the story of six students at Kirin Art High School who dream to become musical idols in the Korean music industry. Go Hye Mi is a student who had majored in classical music but has to give up her dream by entering Kirin Art High School to pay off her father's debt. However, she needs to get two other students to also come to the school in order for her to get enrolled in the school conditionally. These two students are Song Sam Dong, who lives in the countryside and Jin Guk, whom she accidentally meets while trying to escape from the loan shark. Yoon Baek Hee, formerly Hyemi's sidekick, becomes her rival in the school because Hye Mi betrays her during an audition to enter the school. The display of struggle of the students and teachers with its perfect ost makes the drama a perfect entertainment package.
4. TO THE BEAUTIFUL YOU
To the beautiful you is all about romance,school,sports & youth. Goo Jae Hee is a Korean girl who lives in the United States. One day she sees a track and field competition on TV and becomes attracted to one of the high jump competitors, Kang Tae Joon. She begins to idolize the young athlete and in order to help him after he met an accident that could potentially end his career, she disguises herself as a boy and transfers to an all boys’ high school and starts living with him in his dormitory.
5. SCHOOL 2015
Who are you: School 2015 is all about friendship, school, romance & mystery. Sekang High School is the most prestigious private high school in Seoul's Gangnam District, and Go Eun Byul is the most popular girl there. Meanwhile, her identical twin Lee Eun Bi is living in an orphanage and is being bullied at school. Then one day, Eun Byul mysteriously disappears. At the same time, Eun-bi is unjustly expelled from her school and tried to jump off a bridge to commit suicide. Eun Bi is mistaken for her twin, Eun Byul, and her adoptive mother takes her home to Seoul, where she starts living as Eun Byul . After that Eun Bi faces many challenges as Kang So-young transfers to Sekang High School who once bullied her in school. Luckily, Gong Tae Kwang, Eun Bi's classmate and the school troublemaker,and Han Yi Ahn, Eun Byul’s childhood friend protects her whenever So-young tries to bully her. This drama is full of twists and turns. You will understand everything but explaining will be a tough job for you.
6. HI ! SCHOOL LOVE ON
This is a supernatural teen romcom drama where we see Lee Seul Bi, an angel drops from heaven to earth and starts living with Shin Woo Hyun who lives with his grandmom after his parent’s divorce. Along with him, Seul bi starts going to his school and befriends Hwang Sung-yeol who is Woo Hyun’s best friend. Both Hwang Sung-yeol and Shin Woo-hyun are considered asocial in their class as they both are quiet in nature because of their family background and difference between their parents. Problem arises when all three of them are tangled in a love triangle. Will Seul Bi come between the friendship of the two and will they know about her true identity?? What will happen when the whole class knows about Seul bi!! Will she disappear?? To Know do watch the drama. Its worth giving a shot.
7. SASSY GO GO
Sassy Go Go or popularly known as Cheer Up is a teen romance drama where Kang Yeon Doo is the leader of a not so popular school band “ Real King” . The team mates of the group are assembled together because of their poor scores in exams. On the other hand, Kim Yeol, the president of “Baek Ho” an elite club consisting of the top 5 students of the school. When these two clubs are joined together to form a new cheer leading club how they work together keeping their differences besides for the betterment of the club is all the drama about. The journey of love, heartbreak, pain, trauma, friendship of the students makes the drama a hit.
8. ORANGE MARMALADE
Orange marmalade is a drama set in a fantasy world where humans and vampires co-exists. Vampires have evolved and are no longer dependent on human’s blood but are still discriminated and are not considered in the mainstream society. Jung Jae Min is a normal school boy who hates vampires because his mother got married to a vampire who is his homeroom teacher. Baek Ma Ri is a teenager vampire who wants to live a peaceful and quite life hiding her true identity. Transferring many schools, when she gets enrolled in Jae Min’s school she accidentally kisses his neck and falls in love with him. How will Jae Min react when he finds his girlfriend is a vampire??
9. REPLY 1997
Reply 1997 is a drama set in the 90’s . where the life of six friends are shown in two timelines.. one when they are 18 YO another when they are in their 30’s . It shows the interest of the then high schoolers such as their latest hair style, fashion, idol group etc . Whereas on the other hand the stuggle of boys to arrange the x-file CDs. It shows the pure friendship between Sung Shi Won and Yoon Yoon Jae, their sacrifice for each other, their innocence, friendship and blooming love. As the Reply series is all about guessing the lead girl’s husband, here you have to guess Shi Won’s husband. Whether its Yoon Jae or his elder brother.
10. PLAYFUL KISS
Oh Ha Ni is a clumsy student who falls for the perfectionist, Baek Seung Jo. However, Seung Jo is indifferent towards her and rejects her love. When Ha Ni's house collapses, she and her father moves into his long-time friend's house. It turns out that Seung Jo is the friend's son and Ha Ni is given the opportunity to be near the guy she loves. Will she be able to move Seung Jo's heart? 11. BOYS OVER FLOWERS
I wanted to keep this drama in the end as it is tooo mainstream to write about BOF in the beginning. Its too predictable and cheesy.
BOF is all about comedy , romance , school & youth. Here, Geum Jan Di attends the exclusive Shinhwa High School by a scholarship , which she gets because of an incident. She finds there shallow , unbearable classmates, especially the notorious F4. Rich, handsome and arrogant Goo Jun Pyo , Yoon Ji Hoo, So Yi Jung, and Song Woo Bin are the kings of the school and no one, not even the teachers, dare challenge them except Jan Di. Although Jun Pyo persists on bullying Jan Di & at the end he finally begins to find himself attracted towards Jan Di.
